FastText Vector Embedding
FastText is a word embedding method that represents each word as the sum of its character n-gram vectors, producing dense vectors that capture meaning and handle rare or unseen words.
FastText는 각 단어를 문자 n-그램 벡터의 합으로 표현하는 단어 임베딩 방법으로, 의미를 담은 밀집 벡터를 만들고 희귀하거나 처음 보는 단어도 처리한다.
How do I turn words or short texts into numeric vectors that capture meaning?
단어나 짧은 텍스트를 의미를 담은 숫자 벡터로 어떻게 바꾸나요?
FastText learns word vectors from character n-grams, so it can produce embeddings for misspelled, rare or unseen words and for morphologically rich languages. Averaged word vectors give simple document embeddings that fit similarity analysis, clustering or text classification features.
When to use FastText Vector Embedding
- A text column such as reviews, comments or short documents
- Languages with rich morphology or text with typos and rare words
- Lightweight embeddings as features for classification or clustering
When to use something else
- Context-dependent meaning of words or sentence-level similarity; use Sentence-BERT or other transformer embeddings
- Interpretable word-frequency features; use TF-IDF
Assumptions and requirements
- Sufficient training text or a suitable pretrained model
- Tokenization appropriate for the language
- Text preprocessing such as lowercasing
- Each word has a single vector regardless of context
What the analysis reports
- Word vectors
- Document vectors from averaged word embeddings
- Nearest-neighbor words
- Similarity scores or 2D embedding plots
How to report it
Texts were represented with [value]-dimensional FastText embeddings averaged over words, and a classifier using these features achieved an F1 score of [value].
