Life Table (Actuarial) Analysis
Actuarial life table analysis groups follow-up time into fixed intervals and estimates conditional and cumulative survival per interval, treating censored subjects as at risk for half the interval.
보험수리적 생명표 분석은 추적기간을 일정한 구간으로 나누고, 중도절단자를 구간의 절반 동안 위험에 노출된 것으로 보아 구간별 조건부 생존율과 누적생존율을 추정하는 방법입니다.
Can you build a life table showing survival in yearly intervals for my follow-up data?
추적 자료로 1년 단위 생명표를 만들어 구간별 생존율을 보고 싶어요.
The actuarial life table counts, for each time interval, how many subjects entered, died and were censored, and computes the conditional probability of surviving the interval using an effective number at risk of n minus half the censored. Multiplying these conditional probabilities gives cumulative survival, reported with Greenwood standard errors and interval hazard rates.
When to use Life Table (Actuarial) Analysis
- Survival times are recorded in grouped intervals such as months or years
- The sample is large and a compact interval summary is easier to report than a step curve
- You need interval-specific hazard and density estimates
When to use something else
- Exact event times are available for a small sample; use Kaplan-Meier analysis
- You need to adjust for covariates; use a Cox or parametric survival model
Assumptions and requirements
- Censoring is independent of survival
- Withdrawals occur uniformly within each interval
- Survival probability does not depend on calendar time of entry
What the analysis reports
- Number entering, deaths and censored per interval
- Effective number at risk
- Conditional and cumulative survival with Greenwood standard error
- Interval hazard and density
- Median survival by interpolation
How to report it
An actuarial life table with [value] intervals of width [value] showed a cumulative survival of [value] (SE = [value]) at t = [value]; the median survival time was [value].
