Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA)

Local indicators of spatial association (LISA) are statistics, most commonly local Moran's I, that identify where individual areas form significant clusters of similar values or spatial outliers relative to their neighbors.

How do I find where hot spots, cold spots and spatial outliers are located on a map?

LISA decomposes global spatial autocorrelation into a local statistic for each area, classifying locations as high–high or low–low clusters and high–low or low–high outliers. It fits areal data such as districts or grid cells when you need to know where clustering occurs rather than only whether it exists.
